'Do More of What Makes You Happy' is off to a new home!

New exhibition space in Norwich

Today a new department store opened in Norwich. 100% unique, Boutique Fusions sells "products and services offered by some of the best independent retailers in the UK."

It's not even on the high street, it's THAT special. I'm a big fan of Norwich Lanes. 

I'm really excited that I have the opportunity to show my work in their beautiful exhibition space at the top of the building. 

On display is my epic 'Space Bunnies' paper cut and my #3 'Do More of What Makes You Happy' paper cut in a floating frame. 

I'm very proud to be positioned next to an incredibly accomplished painter, Alexander Bell, whose seascape images really took my breath away. They are some of the most enjoyable paintings I've seen in a long time – I love their atmosphere. There's something captured in these paintings that gets flattened out and lost through photographic- and printing-processes. Something raw and honest combined with depth and mood. Absolutely stunning. To say I'm impressed is an understatement.

Do More Of What Makes You Happy #2

Ready for the Mustard Cafe's January change over, I've prepared another 'Do More Of What Makes You Happy' paper cut. I made one this time last year and it sold on the first day of being exhibited. It was not intended to be a New Year's resolution, but it emerged to be something I kept in mind for the last year and it had positive effects. I hope this new colour way will spread the love!

Cube Type

Since the Mustard Cafe sold my Apple Tree Papercut, I made a new piece to fill the space. Technically, this isn't a new piece, but a sample I made some time last year, and I hadn't finished it. So here it is, hung in the cafe for the remainder of the month, or until it sells. 

Prep for Open Exhibition

I've framed my favourite paper cut and will be submitting it to the PEER Open Exhibition at the Stew Gallery in Norwich, Saturday 16 Feb 2013.

2013 Paper-cut calendar project

I'm so pleased that several people have already tried out the paper-cut calendar project. I've received some lovely pictures and feedback! 

My friend Nat:

"It's rather addictive, and rather beautiful!"

My Mum:

"After a few wobbles I got into the swing of it and got more confident and quicker. It took me a good couple of hours to finish. The cutting tip was very useful. The hole punch would not take all the sheets so I had to divide it into 3 sections – it lines up near enough! I'm very happy with my first attempt. It was addictive – I didn't want to stop until I had finished!"

Call for volunteers!

I have put together a template & instruction document so that you can make my A5 cut out calendar at home…

If you are able to cut out shapes with a scalpel, then you will be able to make this.
The design is graphic and geometric, using overlapping lettering to create a random and interesting composition each month. 

This is a rewarding project which can be completed in under 2 hours. Cutting out can be very relaxing – put some music on, get a warm drink and let your mind wander as you slice along the lines and create an impressive piece of work which will be admired all year! 

The finished item would make a lovely handmade gift for Christmas or New Year. You choose the colours, so you can make it fit with any colour scheme.

The PDF contains instructions, tips, and layouts to make an A5 wall calendar.

In addition to the document, you will need:

• 7 sheets of A4 paper in any contrasting colours of your choice, 100–200 gms.

• A4 printer with black ink

• Scalpel with a fresh blade

• Metal ruler

• Cutting mat

• Strong hole punch

• 20cm of string or ribbon
