Happy Birthday Helen framed paper cut

My cousin loved her Special Space Bunnies Edition Birthday Card so much that she framed it! She did a wonderful job, it's perfect! I did suggest she remove the lettering, as it's on a separate layer, but she was exceptionally happy with it being her birthday all year round!

Boutique Fusions has been open less than a month and already they have sold one of my paper cuts! 
'Do More of What Makes You Happy' is off to a new home!

New exhibition space in Norwich

Today a new department store opened in Norwich. 100% unique, Boutique Fusions sells "products and services offered by some of the best independent retailers in the UK."

It's not even on the high street, it's THAT special. I'm a big fan of Norwich Lanes. 

I'm really excited that I have the opportunity to show my work in their beautiful exhibition space at the top of the building. 

On display is my epic 'Space Bunnies' paper cut and my #3 'Do More of What Makes You Happy' paper cut in a floating frame. 

I'm very proud to be positioned next to an incredibly accomplished painter, Alexander Bell, whose seascape images really took my breath away. They are some of the most enjoyable paintings I've seen in a long time – I love their atmosphere. There's something captured in these paintings that gets flattened out and lost through photographic- and printing-processes. Something raw and honest combined with depth and mood. Absolutely stunning. To say I'm impressed is an understatement.   

Space Bunnies

Finally, my epic January papercut is complete!
This piece took ~8 hours to cut out over two weeks. However, prior to cutting, I spent countless hours originating the idea and preparing a cutting template.

I even filmed myself cutting it and prepared a time-lapse documentation, which you can watch here:

Do More Of What Makes You Happy #3

I found floating frames! Yay! Now my paper cuts can be suspended in time and space, against a backdrop of it's own environment.

Return of the MASS

I decided to re-mount my MASS cuts as they weren't being shown off to their full potential in cheap A4 frames.
I bought square black box frames. I used sticky pads between the cut and the backing paper so that the cut is slightly elevated from the background and casts a shadow. I made a picture mount that not only framed the piece nicely, but also held down the backing paper to keep it flat and stop it leaning forward in the space created by the foam pads. 
The shadows created by the cut are incredible – they add so much depth to the piece and really emphasise the cut.
My initial thought was that the new owner would want to mount them in a frame they think is right for their home and the piece, which is why I didn't put much care into it before and used cheap frames. But the more I thought about it, I gradually realised: no one wants to be bothered with mounting a piece, it's my job to display a piece to it's best, and someone will buy it because they want to display it how it looks now. 
I'm so pleased I've done this.

They will be on display in Mustard Cafe, Norwich, until the end of December or until they sell.

After a week of being exhibited in the Mustard Cafe Bar, my Apple Tree paper-cut SOLD!
I shall get busy on another piece to fill the space!

Rob Ryan on my bed side

I finally got around to mounting my Rob Ryan ceramic tile. I painted a tile frame black, varnished it, stuck the tile in, and stuck felt corners over the staples in the bottom so they don't scratch the surface. I love how this fits so well into my bedroom. I also framed my screen printed 2013 Valentines Card. I love it.
